BREAKING GOOD NEWS!!!

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Judge Vaughn Walker just released his decision, ruling that PROP 8 IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Judge Walker’s federal court decision is an historic milestone in the fight for full equality, but it is only a first step:
The decision will inevitably be appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
After denying Americans the opportunity to watch this historic trial on television, Prop 8 campaign leaders and extreme right-wing organizations like the National Organization for Marriage and Focus on the Family will stop at nothing to delegitimize this decision before it ever reaches the Supreme Court.
But this time, we’re fighting back by launching our biggest campaign ever — an unprecedented online storytelling project to bring the Prop 8 trial into the lives of the American people and transform the debate over marriage equality.

As the next phase in our year-long “Testimony: Equality on Trial” project, our new campaign will empower same-sex couples, their families, and allies to fundamentally change the conversation about same-sex marriage in America — establishing today’s ruling as the social and cultural foundation for victory in the Supreme Court.

To defend Judge Walker’s historic decision, we need to go on offense against the Prop 8 campaign, NOM and Focus on the Family. That’s why Tom Dolby and Drew Frist, just married last year, have pledged to contribute $25,000 if our community can match it in the next 48 hours. Will you help us make the match and defend Judge Walker’s decision in the court of public opinion? Click the link below to contribute $25, $50, $100 or more right now! DEADLINE: FRIDAY, 11:59 PM: http://www.couragecampaign.org/DefendTheDecision

Ted Olson, the legendary attorney who teamed up with one-time adversary David Boies to successfully lead this case against Prop 8, said it better than anyone: “If there was ever a trial in the history of our country that the American people should have seen, it was this one.”

One week ago today, the historic federal trial challenging Prop 8 started in San Francisco.

And the Courage Campaign Institute was there, launching the “Prop 8 Trial Tracker” web site to get the truth out as the trial happened.

Rick Jacobs, Courage’s Chair and founder, began live-blogging the trial Monday morning, providing a first draft of history to the world. Within hours the site went viral, as tens of thousands of people shared the link across the internet, from blogs to Facebook and Twitter.

When the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling allowing video recordings, traffic spiked on the site, prompting us to boost our coverage and ask for your support. And, in just four days, more than 2,000 people donated to help us expand the Prop 8 Trial Tracker.

As the trial enters its second week, the site continues to grow, with more than 600,000 views and 4,504 comments posted. A unique community has formed in those comment threads, with heartbreaking conversations sometimes taking place as trial transcripts are posted.

Holding bigots and haters accountable, they fought to not have the hearing held live. Let Truth be our weapon, and persistence be our honor…

(inspired by Prop8 and it’s being upheld..)

Unbroken Chain

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

The California Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Proposition 8 is extremely disappointing, but we don’t have time to mourn their failure to restore marriage equality to California.

It’s time to go on offense. To be fearless in our fight for equality.
Starting right now.

In response, the Courage Campaign will hit the California airwaves with a 60-second TV ad version of “Fidelity” — the heartbreaking online video viewed by more than 1.2 million people, making it the most-watched video ever in the history of California politics.

We are launching this provocative new TV ad in the spirit of Harvey Milk’s call to “come out, come out wherever you are” and proudly tell the stories of the people most affected by the passage of Prop 8 — in moving images set to the beat of Regina Spektor’s beautiful song.

NEWS

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

WE INTERRUPT THE NORMAL DAILY POSTS…

The California Supreme Court just announced that it will release its decision on the fate of Proposition 8 on Tuesday, May 26.

The court will either uphold the Constitution, recognizing equal protection under the law, or uphold discrimination, taking away fundamental civil rights from a minority.

This will be a moment that you — and your friends — will remember for the rest of your life. We don’t know what the state Supreme Court will do. But we’ll send you the news as soon as it is announced.

http://www.couragecampaign.org/DecisionDay

As Charlize Theron told the Courage Campaign community a few weeks ago, Fresno will be the most important place to be on the Saturday after Decision Day — no matter what the Supreme Court rules.

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, thousands of marriage equality supporters from across California — LGBT and straight allies alike — will “Meet in the Middle for Equality” to celebrate or protest the Supreme Court’s ruling at Fresno City Hall.

Nearly 100 organizations, including the Courage Campaign, are mobilizing members for this amazing event in the heartland of California. “Equality Express” buses are leaving from several locations across the state. If you don’t already have a spot reserved, think about car pooling with your friends to Fresno.

Thank you for doing everything in your power to restore marriage equality to California, regardless of what happens on Decision Day.

Rick Jacobs
Chair, Courage Campaign

P.S. You can also get the Supreme Court’s decision texted to your cell phone the moment it is announced. The Courage Campaign is teaming up with CREDO Mobile to send cell phone users the court’s decision on Prop 8 as well as news on “Meet in the Middle.” To sign up on your phone, just text “DECISION” to 27336.

THE SKY DID NOT FALL…

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

…In the last 5 years: the Heavens did NOT spawn fat little Rush Limbaughs wielding swords against humanity…the earth did not hurl towards the sun…and the Four Horsemen did not mount-up for Armageddon…

…but the Governor of Massachusetts and Mayor of Boston, DO invite you to celebrate the FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF SAME SEX MARRIAGE in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Darts and Statues

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

The Oscar party was a success! We won a dart board for our house yay!
I am super-stoked that Kate Winslet won best actress, she so deserved it. She was great in ‘The Reader’. Also wow! Sean Penn’s speech (below) was amazing! Way to go speaking out about gay marriage :)

The SSU talks continued today for my 5th installment. A lot of fun again - the class was shy to ask us questions at first this time, but after awhile they really got into it and had a blast.

We brought a lot more visual demonstartions this time which were well received however sometimes disturbing (for example: we showed on a large projector photos of fetishes). Lol. It’s always fun to go out with Pornteam.com and talk about the industry.

Afterwards I signed some autogropahs (mostly for girls, the guys were too shy lol) and one actually happened to be friends with an ex of mine - a student there that I dated about a year ago - so we reminisced a bit. It was fun! Talk tomorrow!

A FINAL WORD…

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Just a final word about Prop 8. As you all know, this proposition passed in the recent election, taking away the Gay Community’s right to marry in California. I have written several posts about this already, so now I’d like you to take a moment to watch this video a friend of ours sent to me. I feel it really sums up why this proposition was so bad in the first place. I don’t like being very openly political - so this is the last I will mention of prop 8…for now. We may have lost the battle but we WILL win the War!
